Yard Sign Contest
Calling all high school graphic design enthusiasts!
Before we know it, the early signs of spring will be here—bees buzzing, baby bunnies hopping, and the blooming of political signs in yards and open spaces. As I hope I’ve made clear over the last few weeks, I’m running for the Board for every FHSD student. With that in mind, I thought it would be cool if the signs I use for my individual campaign were designed by an FHSD student.
TL/DR:
Who: FHSD high school students interested in graphic design
What: Design a campaign yard sign
When: Submit in January; community vote in early February
Why: Your design could be used in an actual Board of Education campaign
How: Submit using via the Google Form linked at the bottom of this post
The Idea
If you’re a high school student at FH Central, FH High, FH North, FH Union, or Westwood Trails Academy and you enjoy graphic design, I’d love for you to consider participating in a yard sign design contest for my campaign.
Design and submit a yard sign in January, and my team and I will narrow the submissions down to (hopefully) 3-5 finalists—one from each high school. From there, we’ll let the community vote to select the winning design in early February.
Design Requirements
For your design to be considered, it must include:
Text: Jason Adams for FHSD Board of Education
A design that is positive, eye-catching, and appropriate (sorry—had to be said!)
The yard signs will be 24”(W)x18”(H) and possibly 36”(W)x24”(H), so the design should be scalable to those sizes.
The submitted image should capture the full design but sized appropriately to view on a computer, and be a hi-resolution PDF (preferred), JPG, or PNG
That’s it! The rest is up to you!
Important Rules (Please Read Carefully)
Because this is a political campaign and involves student designers, there are some necessary rules. I’d hate for an incredible design to be selected only to have it pulled due to a violation.
Eligibility & Creation
You must be an FHSD high school student
The design cannot be created, edited, or worked on at an FHSD school
The design cannot be created, edited, or worked on using an FHSD device
The design cannot be created, edited, or worked on using a software license that is assigned to an FHSD account (ie @g.fhsdschools.org or @my.fhsdschools.org)
All content must be original or copyright-free (including imagery, fonts, and other elements)
Parental Permission
If you are under 18, you must provide a parent or guardian’s contact information so they can approve your participation
Ownership & Compensation
If selected, the design becomes the property of the campaign, and elements may be used on other media, such as apparel.
While we would love to compensate you, this contest is purely voluntarily and not a paid opportunity.
That said, you have my full permission—and my campaign’s permission—to use the design in your portfolio
I’d also be happy to write an accompanying letter if helpful for school or future work
To repeat myself, I’m running for the Board for the students. I want anyone considering participating to feel comfortable with me, my campaign, and what I’m running on, so if you’d like to email me with questions or talk on the phone before participating, I fully support and welcome that.
If you’re interested—and pinky-promise to make sure your homework and studying come first—here’s the link you’ll use to submit your design and agree to the rules above.
***Please note, you need to sign in and submit with a personal Google account and not your FHSD @g.fhsdschools.org***
